A MORNING ORDER OF SERVICE

Christ is risen!
He is risen indeed! Hallelujah!
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Song: A suggestion to sing or read – May we be one (172ATA)

1. May we be one,
bound in love together,
growing close together day by day;
growing as God fills us with his life;
we are joined in him, he makes one.

2. May we be one,
as our Father planned it.
May the love of Jesus make us strong,
no one can harm us when he is near;
he has brought us peace, he makes us one.

3. May we be one –
Jesus’ truth to bind us.
With his body he unites us all;
dying our death, he restores our life;
living with us now, he makes us one.

4. May we be one,
sharing life together
with the Father and his only Son.
Now we have life in this world of death;
heaven has begun, he makes us one.
heaven has begun, he makes us one.

Opening Sentences:
I will sing to the Lord, because he has won a glorious victory.
The Lord is my strong defender; he is the one who has saved me.
His right hand is awesome in power;
it breaks the enemy in pieces.
Faithful to his promise, he led the people he had rescued;
by his strength he guided them to his sacred land.
He brings them in and plants them on his mountain,
the place that he has chosen for his home,
the temple that he himself has built.
The Lord will be king forever and ever.
(Exodus 15:1,2,6,13,17,18)

Prayers:
Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth. And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty, from thence he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Psalm: Psalm 68:1-10
(v.1-3)
God shall arise, his enemies shall be scattered;
and those who hate him shall flee before him!
As smoke is driven away, so you shall drive them away;
as wax melts before fire,
so the wicked shall perish before God!
But the righteous shall be glad;
they shall exult before God;
they shall be jubilant with joy!
(v.4-6)
Sing to God, sing praises to his name;
lift up a song to him who rides through the deserts;
his name is the LORD; exult before him!
Father of the fatherless and protector of widows
is God in his holy habitation.
God settles the solitary in a home;
he leads out the prisoners to prosperity,
but the rebellious dwell in a parched land.
(v.7-10)
O God, when you went out before your people,
when you marched through the wilderness,
the earth quaked, the heavens poured down rain,
before God, the One of Sinai,
before God, the God of Israel.
Rain in abundance, O God, you shed abroad;
you restored your inheritance as it languished;
your flock found a dwelling in it;
in your goodness, O God, you provided for the needy.
 Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Preparing to hear God’s Word:
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.

Let us pray for the unity of the Holy Spirit … (silence)
Holy Father, your Son prayed for his disciples that they would be one, as you and he are one. Keep your whole church harmoniously together in faith and love, united by the one Spirit. We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Responses:
Lord, I call to you for help. In the morning I pray to you.
I am filled with praise for you, and proclaim your glory all day long.
Close your eyes to my sins, and wipe away all my evil.
Create a pure heart in me, O God, and put a new and loyal spirit within me.
Do not banish me from your presence; do not take your holy spirit away from me. Give me the joy that comes from your salvation, and make me eager to please you.
Be gracious, Lord, this day,
and keep us free from sin.
Have mercy on us, Lord;
have mercy on us.
Let your goodness and love be with us, as we put our hope in you.
Listen to my prayer, Lord, and hear my cry for help.

The Offering:
Let us pause and thank God for all his gifts to us and then offer ourselves and what we have to him. (Silence)
Gracious Father, we offer with joy and thanks what you have first given us –  ourselves, our time and our possessions –  as signs of your goodness and symbols of our love.  Accept them for the sake of Jesus Christ,  who offered himself for us. Amen.

The Prayers:
Let us pray that the results of Christ’s resurrection may be seen throughout the world.

After each petition, you are invited to pray as follows – Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

I thank you, heavenly Father, through your dear Son, Jesus Christ, that you have protected me through the night from all harm and danger. I ask you to keep me this day, too, from all sin and evil, so that in all my thoughts, words, and deeds I may please you. In your hands I place my body and soul and all that is mine. Let your holy angel be with me, so that the evil one may have no power over me. Amen.

The Blessing:
Let us praise the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
Amen.

Song: A suggestion to sing or read – Jesus, please watch over us (101ATN)

1. As we step from the edge of morning,
feet can’t tell where to take us;
Here’s a light that will shine for ever,
here’s the light that will guide us.
Chorus: Jesus, please watch over us.     Jesus, please take care of us.

2. Trouble comes, and we search for safety,
we forget that you hold us;
Fill our minds so that we remember,
say once more that you love us.
Chorus: Jesus, please watch over us.     Jesus, please take care of us.

3. Danger meets us at every moment,
death is never in hiding;
You are stronger than any danger,
you are stronger than dying.
Chorus: Jesus, please watch over us.     Jesus, please take care of us.

4. In your life is the Father’s welcome,
in your death there is freedom;
Be our life and our death forever,
be our new resurrection.
Chorus: Jesus, please watch over us.     Jesus, please take care of us.
