Opening Sentences:
Good morning and welcome to worship. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit whom he has given us. Come, Holy Spirit, Lord and giver of life.
Fill the hearts of your faithful people and kindle in them the fire of your love.
Come, Holy Spirit, Lord and giver of life.

Song: A suggestion to sing or read – Holy Spirit, living water (359ATOK)

1. Holy Spirit, living water
flow in us and set us free.
Cleanse our unbelief and sorrow,
wash our eyes and make us see.

2. Holy Spirit, come as wind and
blow the dust of death away.
Breathe the gift of life into us,
lighten hearts to laugh and play.

3. Holy Spirit, rushing fire,
burn with truth and justice here.
Catch our minds alight with passion,
perfect love that casts out fear.

4. Holy Spirit, come in silence,
wordlessly to heal and bless.
Be the heart that prays within us,
fill the void with tenderness.

5. Holy Spirit, blessed Wisdom,
teach us all of God’s delight.
Offer us the wine of grace and
make us children of the Light.

Lord, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Preparing to hear God’s Word:
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.

Let us pray for the power of the Holy Spirit … (silence)
Almighty and merciful God, you sent your Holy Spirit at Pentecost, making the disciples bold to preach the good news. Send us out with the power of the same Spirit to spread the fire of your love. We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and  forever. Amen.

The Psalm:
Psalm 104:24,27,28a; Antiphon – Liturgical text
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful,
and kindle in them the fire of your love. Alleluia.
How many are your works, O Lord.
In wisdom you have made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.
These all look to you to give them their food at the proper time.
When you give it to them, they gather it up.
When you send your Spirit, they are created,
and you renew the face of the earth.
Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful,
and kindle in them the fire of your love. Alleluia.

shine upon this heart of mine;
Chase the shades of night away,
turn the darkness into day.

let me all His beauties trace;
Show those glorious truths to me
which are only known to Thee.

Affirmation of Baptism:
Pentecost was a baptismal festival in the Early Church. Let us affirm our baptism.

Brothers and sisters in Christ:
Do you renounce the devil and all his works and all his ways?
Yes, I do.

Do you believe in God the Father?
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

Do you believe in God the Son?
And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty, from thence he will come to judge the living and the dead.

Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Do you intend to remain firm in this faith and reflect it in love to God and your neighbour?
Yes, I do.

God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has given you new birth by water and the Spirit and has forgiven you all your sins, strengthen you with his Spirit, so that you receive eternal life. Amen.

Song: A suggestion to sing or read – Holy Spirit, light divine (496LSB) – v.3-5

3. Holy Spirit, pow’r divine,
cleanse this guilty heart of mine;
In Thy mercy pity me,
from sin’s bondage set me free.
4. Holy Spirit, joy divine
cheer this saddened heart of mine;
Yield a sacred, settled peace,
let it grow and still increase.

5. Holy Spirit, all divine,
dwell within this heart of mine;
Cast down ev’ry idol throne,
reign supreme, and reign alone.

Words: Andrew Reed (1787 – 1862), alt.  Music: Song 13 Orlando Gibbons (1583 – 1625)

O Lord, have mercy on me.
Heal me, for I have sinned against you.
Turn to us again, O Lord!
Have pity on your servants.
Let your goodness and love be with us,
as we put our hope in you.
Let your priests be clothed with righteousness,
and let your saints shout for joy.
Save your people, and bless your heritage;
be their shepherd, and carry them forever.
Remember your church, which you redeemed long ago.
Peace be within its walls, and security within its towers.
Let us pray for those who are absent.
O Lord our God, save your servants who trust in you.
Let us pray for God’s people who are broken-hearted and oppressed.
Redeem Israel, O God, from all their troubles.
Send us help from your sanctuary,
and give us support from Zion.
Listen to my prayer, Lord:
and hear my cry for help.

The Offering:
Let us pause and thank God for all his gifts to us and then offer ourselves and what we have to him. (Silence)
Gracious Father, we offer with joy and thanks what you have first given us –  ourselves, our time and our possessions –  as signs of your goodness and symbols of our love.  Accept them for the sake of Jesus Christ,  who offered himself for us. Amen.

The Prayers:
Let us pray for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Church.

We thank you, holy Father, that, as you had promised, you gave your Holy Spirit to all your people at Pentecost. Pour out your life-giving Spirit on your church throughout the world and equip its members with the gifts of your Spirit.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

You brought light out of darkness and order out of chaos by your Spirit in the creation of the world. Let your Spirit move over our unruly world and heal its broken people. Bring the COVID-19 storm to an end, we pray. Comfort all who are in the valley of the shadow of death. May the Holy Spirit help them to see and trust Jesus when things are grim and dark. Help those we know who need your support _________________

Lord, in your mercy: hear our prayer.

You sent out your Spirit on the disciples like the rush of a mighty wind and distributed tongues of fire on their heads. Burn out all that is evil in us; consecrate all your people for holy service, and empower them to work with you for the salvation of the world. Bless Good Shepherd and also the China Evangelical Lutheran Church so that more people will meet Jesus. We also pray for all at Seedlings in Petts Wood that the return to school goes well for students and families and all the staff.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

You inspired the disciples with your Spirit to praise your marvellous deeds in many different languages. Unloose the tongues of all your people, so that they may joyfully confess you as their Lord and boldly proclaim their common faith to all the world. Guide us when to speak and when to keep silent so that both point to Jesus.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

You gave the Holy Spirit to all those who were baptised on the day of Pentecost. Let your Spirit renew the faith of all those baptised, so that they may devote themselves to worship, to the teaching of the apostles, to the giving of gifts to you, to the breaking of bread in the Lord’s Supper – and Lord, we pray for this to happen for us soon – and to the prayer of the Church for the world. Lead us to never forget your grace and mercy.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

After Pentecost people returned to their homes and today many of us have not left our homes for quite a while, while others return to homes after a day at work, and still others do not go home to protect the family there. Bless those who are away from home and those at home. Grant safety and health on all journeys, all tasks, and when we are at rest. We pray particularly Monika, Alison, Evie, Dagmar, Helena, Lucy and Simon, Katy and Sam, Andy and Andy’s sister, and also Veronika and Rosana in the NHS and all NHS workers, other carers and those on any ‘front line’. Lead us all to travel through each day with your Word and prayer to accompany us so that we all will grow in faith and love.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

You place your people in every land, culture, and political system as light and salt and yeast. Guide us to be active where you place us so that home and street, county and country may be blessed. Guide Her Majesty’s government to act with integrity so that all legislation and actions promote health and well-being for all. Grant them wisdom for the situations and decisions they face.
Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord God, heavenly Father, you united people from many different nations, languages and cultures by your Holy Spirit. Bring together those who have been divided by misunderstanding, hatred, and mistrust – whether in homes or as countries – so that we may live in peace and may the people of this planet join with all the angels as we adore you forever; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reign with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

I thank you, heavenly Father, through your dear Son, Jesus Christ, that you have protected me through the night from all harm and danger. I ask you to keep me this day, too, from all sin and evil, so that in all my thoughts, words, and deeds I may please you. In your hands I place my body and soul and all that is mine. Let your holy angel be with me, so that the evil one may have no power over me. Amen.

The Blessing:
Let us praise the Lord.
Thanks be to God.
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Song: A suggestion to sing or read – Holy Spirit, ever dwelling (650LSB)

1. Holy Spirit, ever dwelling
in the holiest realms of light;
Holy Spirit, ever brooding
O’er a world of gloom and night;
Holy Spirit, ever raising
those of earth to thrones on high:
Living, life-imparting Spirit,
you we praise and magnify.

2. Holy Spirit, ever living
as the church’s very life;
Holy Spirit, ever striving
through us in a ceaseless strife;
Holy Spirit, ever forming
in the church the mind of Christ:
You we praise with endless worship
for your fruit and gifts unpriced.

3. Holy Spirit, ever working
through the church’s ministry;
quickening, strengthening and absolving,
setting captive sinners free;
Holy Spirit, ever binding
age to age, and soul to soul,
in a fellowship unending:
You we worship and extol.
