As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth. And his disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “It was not that this man sinned, or his parents, but that the works of God might be displayed in him. John 9:1-3
Greetings in the name of Jesus!
There is a more blinding darkness than being born blind. Jesus’ disciples were fixated on affixing blame. It is natural that, when something goes wrong, we try to figure out the cause of the problem and attribute responsibility and finding blame in others is easy. What’s difficult is owning up to our own mistakes. But, blaming on and on is counter-productive when it comes to moving to a solution. It is vanity. Like beating a dead horse, it is futile to seek for life where there isn’t any; and so, Jesus warded off their obsession for blaming to help them take notice of the unsettling truth that God had caused the man’s blindness in order to reveal His healing intention for all mankind.
